Back in January, I introduced you to my morning routine. One thing I should say about it is that it’s constantly evolving and changing as I try to work out what’s right for me. A few of you expressed an interest on my Twitter for hearing about my other routines, so I’m back this week to do exactly that!
Lunchtime Routine
After I’ve completed my morning routine (which some days takes all morning, that’s just the way it goes), I do some work (paid if I have it, if not admin, marketing or CPD) until lunchtime at around 12.30-1pm. I take about an hour for lunch and try to eat my lunch away from my computer, either watching some TV with my husband or reading a book. After that, I do the washing up (we accumulate so much) and then I go for a walk. Some days I skip this, but I never skip for two days in a row. Depending on how much time I have, it might just be five minutes around the block or it could be a longer 40-minute walk. I think it’s so important to get out and about, especially at the moment since we’re still in lockdown in the UK. It’s great for both your mental and physical health, and it forces you to take a screen break!
End of Day Routine
There’s only one step to this, but at 5.50pm, I clear my desk, check my emails one last time and I write my To-Do list on my whiteboard for the next day. I keep track of my To-Dos with Things, but I find having my tasks for the day on my whiteboard so motivational. I get to easily see them without picking up my phone, keeping me more focused, and I get the satisfaction of crossing off tasks as I complete them. If I’m feeling particularly demotivated, I add something nice I want to do at the end of the day once I complete my work.
Evening Routine
I don’t have a set evening routine, but sometimes I take a bath, I have a nice warm milky drink and I head to bed an hour before I want to sleep. I turn off all screens and read to give my eyes some screen-free time. If I’m using my kobo, I keep my blue light blocking glasses on and turn down the brightness.
So those are the routines I follow every working day. Do you have any routines you follow? Let me know in the comments or talk to me on Instagram.
