As we’re speedily heading into the second half of 2021 (where did the time go?), I thought it was a good time to do a mid-year goals check-in! You can see the original goals I set in this blogpost.
What is a SMART goal?
Before we get into my mid-year check-in, I thought I’d quickly recap what SMART goals are. It’s a technique to set goals you can actually achieve. SMART stands for:
S – Specific – the less general the goal, the more achievable it is
M – Measurable – set a specific amount of whatever it is that you want to get done
A – Achievable – don’t overset your goals!
R – Relevant – it’s no use doing something irrelevant to your business
T – Time-bound – give it a deadline!
Mid-year work goals check-in
Here’s how I’m doing on my goals from January this year:
1. Earn 15k
The beginning of this year was a little slow, but the last few weeks have been very busy, so I’m hoping to achieve this.
2. Make six YouTube videos
I’ve already posted three videos on my YouTube channel, but, as I said, work has been busy recently. I’m hoping to have time to make some more soon, as they were well received! I’m always looking for inspiration, so if you know of any language-related YouTube channels, let me know in the comments!
3. Write six Veritea blogs
Veritea is my lifestyle and book blog. Unfortunately, I am lagging behind on this one but hope to carve out more time for it in the second half of this year.
4. Do one hour of voluntary work per week
In general, I’ve done at least one hour of voluntary work a week so far this year, though, as I’m now in a play at my local amateur theatre, I’ve had little time for it recently.
5. Stick to work routines
I have amended my work routines, but I am still sticking to them fairly consistently. Of course, there is a degree of flexibility, depending on what other work commitments I have!
6. Make plans for doing a PhD
This really has taken a backburner. I would love to do a PhD eventually, but I am focused on growing my business for now. However, I have found the PhD programme I would like to follow.
7. Write 24 blogposts
As you can see, this has been going well and I’m even hoping to post more regularly! If you want to keep up with my blogposts, check out my blog here.
8. Finish the Deutsche Welle A1 and A2 courses
My CPD has very much taken a backburner because work has been so busy recently. So I’m hoping to catch up in my quieter periods.
9. Finish Spanish textbook
I have completely disregarded this one and decided to pursue Italian instead, as I occasionally work in Italian during the summer. I have yet to open my textbook, though…
10. Finish reviewing al-Kitaab 1
As with number eight, I’ve had little time to work on this, but hope to get back to it soon!
11. Finish the book translation in the first quarter
I’m making slow but steady progress with the book translation, but a lot of other work has come in recently!Did you set any goals? How are they going so far this year? Let me know in the comments below! If one of your goals was to learn a new language, I would love to help you with French! Contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
