Since the end of the year is swiftly approaching, I feel that it is high time to do a wrap up of my 2021 New Year’s resolutions. This year has been incredibly chaotic thanks to the ongoing pandemic, so in all honesty, I’m happy with what I achieved, even if I didn’t tick everything off. If you want to see my rationale behind these new year goals for 2021, check out the original blog post. So without further ado, let’s dive into the new year goals I set at the beginning of 2021.
1. Earn £15k
As I said at the time, finances can be a tricky topic, particularly within the freelance world. I set this goal publicly in an attempt to help destigmatise the topic. I am pleased to say that I did succeed in this goal! Admittedly, this was quite a low bar, and I was hoping to surpass this goal by quite a lot, but given the situation in the world right now, I’ll take it!
2. Make 6 YouTube videos
Unfortunately, this goal really fell by the wayside due to being inundated by paid work. However, I did manage to upload three videos and have plans for more next year!
3. Write 6 Veritea blogs
Again this was something that I didn’t really have time for due to other work commitments. But, again, I have some plans up my sleeve for next year!
4. Do one hour of voluntary work per week
I may not have managed exactly one hour of voluntary work every week, but I feel pretty good about the amount of time I dedicated to charitable pursuits in 2021.
5. Stick to work routines
My work routines haven’t remained exactly the same throughout the year, and I might not stick to them every day, but on the whole, I have a pretty set routine that gets me through the working day.
6. Make plans for doing a PhD
This has definitely taken a backburner. I have a vague idea of what I would like to do and where, but no concrete plans yet. I definitely need to work on the business before going part-time for a PhD!
7. Write 24 blogposts
I completely smashed this goal, writing 28 blog posts this year!
8. Finish the Deutsche Welle A1 and A2 courses
Once again, I ran out of time with this one due to other work commitments. I hope to finish the Deutsche Welle A1 course in the new year.
9. Finish Spanish textbook
I have completely pivoted away from this new year goal from 2021. I don’t think Spanish is that useful a language to me professionally, whereas Italian would help me, as I sometimes work in Italy. As such, I’m hoping to make time to learn Italian in 2022.
10. Finish reviewing al-Kitaab 1
Again, I didn’t have time for this but would love to do this next year.
11. Finish the book translation in the first quarter
Unfortunately, I am still working on my big book translation! It’s taking me way longer than I thought, but I’m enjoying the process! I’m hoping to complete it in the first half of 2022.
So that’s how I did with my new year’s resolutions in 2021! How did you do? Let me know in the comments below!
