2021 has been incredibly chaotic, to say the least. It has passed so quickly, which has probably been a blessing. But this means, as it’s the final day of the year, it’s time to set some business resolutions for 2022! If you have a small business, read on to discover my goals for 2022 and get some inspiration for your own!
Financial small business goals for 2022
My first goal for next year is a financial one. As I only started my small business in 2018, my income has been gradually increasing every year (though obviously impacted by the COVID pandemic for most of my freelance working life!). Every year, I set an amount I would like to earn to motivate myself! So, that being said, my first goal is:
1. Earn £30k
This would be a definite improvement on my income in2021!
Marketing new year’s resolutions for small businesses in 2022
To reach my financial goal for this year, I need to put some serious work into my marketing. With that in mind, I have come up with these goals:
2. Market to more direct clients
Working with direct clients clearly cuts out the middle man, meaning I can earn more. To be more specific, I would like to work with more medical direct clients and tutoring clients. 3. Produce 12 YouTube videos
I have loved YouTube since its inception and think it can be used as a really creative marketing tool. In 2022, I would love to produce more YouTube videos. Let me know if there is anything in particular you would like to see me talk about!
4. Employ someone to do SEO for my website
I do a fair amount of SEO work for clients, but I find very little time to do it for my own website. As such, I think it would be a worthwhile investment to get someone else to do it for me!
5. Gain more followers on my Instagram accounts
I actually have three Instagram accounts: my language-related professional account, my bookstagram and my pigstagram. I post sporadically on all three but really enjoy working on them and would love to have a bigger presence on Instagram. Therefore, I will be looking into improving my hashtag use and posting more regularly to gain more of a platform.
6. Post regularly on both my blogs
In addition to this blog, I have a personal one too. However, I haven’t had as much time to post on them as I would like due to other work commitments. So, in 2022, I would like to commit to posting fortnightly on either blog.
Work and misc. business resolutions for 2022
This final category is a bit random. We’ll start with some ‘work’-related small business goals, and then just a couple of misc. goals I’d like to get done.
7. Finish the book translation in the first half of the year
As you may know, I have been working on a book translation for over a year now. I would really love to finish this off in the first half of the year to free up more time for new projects!
8. Get business insurance!
This is very important and just something I haven’t got round to yet. I’m hoping to tick this off in January.
9. Make more time for CPD
Due to having so much paid work in 2021, I had very little time for CPD (continued professional development). To this end, I have four sub-goals I would like to work on:
- Finish the Deutsche Welle A1 course
- Improve my spoken Arabic
- Complete an Italian workbook
- Improve my French listening
10. Do more subtitling work
I’ve massively enjoyed the subtitling work I have done to date and would love to expand this part of my business.
11. Begin writing a book
It’s long been a goal of mine to write and publish a book. I’m not 100% sure what this will be yet, whether fiction or non-fiction, but I would like to make a plan and begin to write a book in 2022.
