Verity Roat MA TRANS BA (CANTAB) is an Arabic & French > English Translator and Language Tutor based in Norfolk. Recent projects include: HR & marketing, travel & tourism, medical, certificates, legal and financial, education and literature. In December 2018 she graduated from the University of East Anglia with a Masters of Arts with Distinction in Applied Translation. Cambridge graduate (2017) in French and Arabic at the University of Cambridge, with modules in Arabic language and literature, French language and literature, and linguistics.
As a young recent graduate, she can offer a dynamic approach whilst providing high quality translations. In 2016, she spent eight months in Morocco so have detailed, recent knowledge of North Africa. She volunteered with a children’s charity and, as such, she is empassioned about NGO and charity work, as well having an extensive knowledge of social work. She also has experience in social media, as she manned the charity’s social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, during her time in Morocco. She adores travelling and learning languages and has plans this year to visit Canada, France and Italy.
She has been a self-employed French tutor since March 2013 and can provide references from previous students on request. She has experience tutoring from age 12 to adult and from complete beginner’s to AS level. She is also interested in tutoring English as a Foreign Language, English Language and Literature up to GCSE and German up to GCSE. She has a DBS certificate.
Lessons are likely to be conducted in a cafe in Norwich to be arranged at tutee’s convenience or online via Skype.
Prior to her tutoring experience, she worked as a teaching assistant and cover tutor at Mad Red Theatre School (part of Maddermarket Theatre) from Sept 2012 – present. The role included working alongside the tutor to provide professional theatre lessons as well as leading small group workshops.
In August 2014, 2015 and 2018, she worked for The English Experience as an Activity Leader and Drama Coordinator on an English speaking camp in Italy. There she worked with small groups of children aged 10-14, teaching them English as a foreign language via drama games, arts and crafts and sports. As a Drama Coordinator, she taught drama to children and organised a final presentation to present to the parents to showcase the children’s English language and theatre skills.
Verity is very relaxed, punctual and professional. She prefers to conduct her lessons in a cafe to maintain a calm, casual environment to put the learner at ease. She is confident and organised.
In terms of translation, she has undertaken an internship in translation and recently completed a Masters in translation. She also has voluntary experience of translation documents from and into French and Arabic. She now works freelance within the language sector.
She also offers copywriting, copy editing and proofreading services, in addition to acting and role-playing.
